FEBRUARY 2008: Thank you so much for supporting me all the years as an actress and an author. Now I would like to request your support as a wife. If you have read my book or any articles about me you probably know how proud I am to be married to an LAPD SWAT officer. You may have heard in the news that they have suffered the first loss. I learned of this tragedy when my mom called me at 5am asking if Rob was working. When I told her he was, she explained that two SWAT officers had been shot and one died. At this point they hadn't released any names. I immediately hung up and dialed my husbands cell phone. I was so relieved to hear his voice on the other end. He was on crisis negotiation that night so he was able to answer his phone. I was given the relief that another wife was not given.

People ask me all the time how hard it must be to be married to an officer with such a dangerous job. Well the truth is it wasn't hard to be brave. I always clung to the fact that he was safe because they had never had a death since SWAT began in 1971. That sense of security has been shaken for me and all the other spouses and relatives of the now 59 SWAT officers.

Please pray for my friend Michelle and Jim. He was also shot that night and is still hospitalized while they try to rebuild his jaw as he was shot in the face. And pray for Randy Simmons' family. He was a husband and father, a good man, a good friend, a good cop and a good Christian. I know he is with his Father in heaven. If you want to donate to these families please contact the www.lapfcu.com.

Thank you again for your support and concern,
Tracy Lindsey Melchior
